Animal Party

On July 20th The Phoenix House had an Animal Party to tie in with our current interest of Animals/The Zoo. We all came along dressed up as our FAVOURITE animals. We had a day filled with fun and games such as : Face painting, Pass the Parcel, Musical Statues, Bowling, Bean Bag toss and plenty more!

I wonder what animals we might see at our K.C.C trip to the Zoo next week?

Check out some of the fun we had on the day with the photos below :)

Matariki Library trip

On Friday the 1st of July the Phoenix House walked up to the Howick Library where we enjoyed listening to some Matariki stories and sung some songs with the librarian  Abby.

We were able to walk through a big tent filled with lights to represent the twinkling stars we also got to peep into the special Matariki tent as well to see the special light display that was inside.

Overall we had an enjoyable morning at the Howick Library and we look forward to visiting again soon :)

Rewena Bread

In continuation with our Matariki celebrations we decided to make some traditional Rewena Bread. Rewena bread is a traditional Maori bread with a very simular taste and texture to sour dough bread.
The Phoenix House children took turns adding, mixing and kneading the ingredients and dough together.

We made this delicious bread to go with the scrumptious vegetaable soup we made the previous day with Alisha with the left over vegetables from our 'Hangi basket'

At lunchtime the children all sat down nicely alongside their peers and tried the Rewena bread and vegetable soup they made. Perfect on a cold winters day like today :)
