Our Baby Budgies

Meet Topper and Biscuit

Wow, lots has been happing in phoenix house including our budgies Rainbow and Batman having babies!!!

It's been so amazing for the children to experience such a fascinating process. It has been great for them to develop a sense of responsibility as they help look after the baby birds. We have watched them grow ever since they hatched out from there eggs. Batman and Rainbow are fantastic parents and have taken such great care of Topper and Biscuit. We have also been lucky enough to be able to handle them. So they love having cuddles every now and again.

Making Sushi with Ki

Sushi!!!

We love creating here in Phoenix house, and we love food! So what better way to incorporate both then making Sushi. We have been learning all about our culture and what makes us unique. For Ki its all about the Chinese culture and she is a master at making Sushi. They children have recently made some felt sushi pieces with Ki and today they extending their knowledge by making real sushi to eat. We had so much fun learning how to create this yummy food, we all gave it a go and tasted our end product. Tracey even had a go!

Our Trip to New World for Our Little Garden

Little Garden- New World Visit

We have been obsessed with the Little Gardens from New World. We where lucky enough to have New World collect some for us. Every week the box got full with donation from people who didn't want them. We finally got to go down and collect them, we had a nice walk down to New World. When we got there we were able to water their garden and even plant our own to add to their growing vegetable garden. We learnt the importance of planting Little Gardens and how import they are to attract and build the bee population. We can not wait to get back to Phoenix house and plant them.

Daffodil Day

Daffodil Day

Here in the Phoenix house we are all about our community and doing what we can to help. We celebrated Daffodil Day with a special 'Yellow Day' we all came dressed in yellow, and did some cool yellow activities there was also yellow food. It was a great day to raise awareness for those living with cancer. We managed to raise over $100 with all the proceeds going directly to the Cancer society to support them with the amazing work they do.

Matariki Celebrations

Matariki

We love celebrating all kinds of cultural events here in Phoenix house so we celebrated the Maori New year in style. We loved creating our own Hangi in the kai cooker and preparing and tasting all the yummy veggies. It was a great opportunity to come together and show thanks for all that we have.

We also had a fantastic time visiting our local Marae, we where welcomed on by a traditional Powhiri. We sang some special waiata in celebration of Matariki, enjoyed a shared morning tea, had a look around their special gardens and learnt some history in their museum. We also got to take home a special star.
