Howick Domain Picnic

Today we wrapped up the first week of our Phoenix House Holiday programme by heading down to Howick Domain in both the morning and afternoon where we enjoyed playing games, having running races and enjoying a nice picnic with our friends.
We have had so much fun and cannot wait to do it all again next week! Check out some of the photo's of todays adventure :)

ANZAC biscuits

This morning the Phoenix House children were busy making some delicious ANZAC biscuits for our Picnic down at Howick Domain this morning. We all took turns adding and mixing the ingredients together and had some very willing taste testers once they were baked and ready to eat out of the oven :) Yum!

We wish you all a safe and happy long weekend :)

Happy ANZAC Day
Lest We Forget xx

Music and Dancing

Music and Movement has been a fast growing interest within the Phoenix House.
Two games in particular that are consistently popular with the children are  Musical Statues and Musical chairs.

These games encourage children to move to the beat of the music as well as listening carefully to when the music stops. They gain a great amount of enjoyment and delight from dancing and having the opportunity to play and compete with their peers in a safe and friendly environment.

With social games such as these it allows children to respect rules and learn to follow and enforce them to their peers. It also keeps the game fair and predictable.

Social games also foster appropriate social behaviour even when things don't go their way.

We will continue to extend and foster this interest through a variety of different games and activities for the children to participate in.
