Sophie and Leo the Lion's first weekend adventure

This week Elijah and Maia have been chosen to take Leo and Sophie home for the long weekend! How exciting! We cannot wait to read about all the fun adventures you go on :) Well-Done for being consistent helpers, great friends and always using your manners and helping hands. Ka Pai!

Baby Bird

This morning we had a little baby bird fall out of our big tree within the Phoenix House playground. We quickly checked to see if it was okay which fortunately it was :)
We then looked into how to nurture the little bird online where the children helped Tracey gather a cardboard box, straw and paper towels. We then hammered our DIY nest to the tree hoping it would be looked after by its mother.

Soon after lunch we received a phone call from Charlette's mother saying that Charlette came home talking about the baby bird and quickly rung us to see if we would like them to look after the baby bird :) What a kind and generous offer. Thank-you!
We will be sure to track our little birds process with being looked after and nurtured back to health. I'm sure the little bird will be well looked after under your care Charlette :)

Halloween activities

This week within the Phoenix House we have been very busy getting ready for Halloween by making some spooky ghosts, creepy crawly spiders, terrifying pumpkins and scary mummies! I cannot wait to see what costumes the Phoenix House children will come along in next Friday for our Halloween Dress-up party!

NZ Shakeout Earthquake Drill

This week we had our National Shakeout Earthquake drill at Kids Crafty Club which we have been practicing the past few weeks. The Phoenix House children have been equipped with the knowledge that if there is an eathquake we need to 'Stop, Drop and Hold!'
They did awesome on the day and knew exactly what to do when they heard the teachers calling out "Earthquake!". Ka Pai Phoenix House!

Meet Sophie and Leo!

Phoenix House would like to introduce Leo and Sophie! Our cuddley new friends :)

The children gathered on the mat and were introduced to our new furry friends and were given the opportunity to name each lion. After a few ideas were given by the children they were then able to vote for what name they favoured the most. Leo and Sophie were the most popular out of the bunch.

The Phoenix House teachers explained that Leo and Sophie were hiding around the room watching the children throughout the week to see who they would like to spend the weekend with and what was required from them inorder to take Leo or Sophie home. Good manners, helping hands, good tidying up and being an all round awesome friend was just a few of the qualities Sophie and Leo are looking out for. This past week we noticed that the Phoenix House children are really trying hard and making a conscious effort in meeting all those requirements which is awesome to see :)

Leo and Sophie both have their own individual books where you can record what your child and Sophie or Leo have been upto during their weekend adventures. This can be recorded through photo's, drawings and/or written stories :)

Thank you to all the parents for your support :) we really do appreciate it.
